Our Village: Alacón

Boring into the hill on its northern face, nearly 500 wine cellars are carved into the rock. From the old walled enclosure, only one of the access arches and a semi-ruined medieval tower, popularly known as “La Torre Vieja“, remain.

At the highest point of the town is the church of  Nuestra Señora de la Asunción.

However, what truly sets Alacón apart are the numerous levantine rock art shelters scattered throughout its territory, around Felio hill and Mortero ravine.

Additionally, Alacón is part of the Martín River Cultural Park, a spectacular area that blends the natural beauty of the Martín canyons with the invaluable rock paintings in its shelters, which have been declared a World Heritage Site.

The “Francisco Andreu” Paleontology Interpretation Center allows you to discover the paleontological richness of the area.

You can also visit the small museum of the old oil mill, which showcases the artisanal production of olive oil.
